Technical Principle of Reverse Osmosis
According to the reverse osmosis schematic diagram, purified water in a vessel flow to the salt water side through semi-permeable membrane until a new balance, this phenomenon is called osmosis. At this time the static pressure difference at two sides of the membrane is osmotic pressure. An exterior pressure imposed to one side of salt water would affect the original balance through increasing chemical potential of one side of salt water and letting water in salt water flow to purified water through semi-permeable membrane, this phenomenon is called reverse osmosis. The motive of reverse osmosis process is exterior pressure. The amount energy for reverse osmosis closely depends on the density of salt water. Therefore, in reverse osmosing purified water from salt water, the higher the density of salt is, the more the energy consumes.
Main Applications of Reverse Osmosis Membrane:
• Sea water desalination, brackish water desalination
• Potable water, municipal water supply, water draining and reclaimed water treatment
• Manufacture of process water for food and pharmaceutical industries and ultra-purified water for semiconductor industry.
• Surface water turbidity removal, waste water treatment and decoloration
• Municipal landscape and farmland irrigation
• Industrial purified water, boiler feed water manufacture
• Circulating cooling water, industrial and municipal sewage treatment
• Desalt, separation and concentration of all kinds of aqueous solution
• Separation and concentration of dairy products
